“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power”
P O W E R
Let’s talk about a little thing called power for a second. Power is universally relevant and eternally applicable to the human race, but nobody really goes out and says that they seek power. Just like many potentially negative things such as vengeance and lust are in our nature, power also lies somewhere in our DNA. Something about it is just so appealing to us. There’s nothing quite like it.
There are different forms of power and they are definitely not all negative. There’s the power we have over ourselves, which is the most important form of power. We have the power of choice, to control our decisions and actions. Another form of power exists too; power over other people through society-made position or rank and the potential to hold power through influence or following.
The factor that defines power as a positive or a negative really comes down to a few questions: What type of "power" are you pursuing? Why are you pursuing it? What will you do when you acquire it? Do you want it for yourself or for the betterment of the world around you?
