"The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life"
F A M I L Y
There is an inherent love born through family. However, this love creates a unique predicament. As we grow, we start to distinguish the things that bother us about the people closest to us. The qualities that annoy us stem from the fact that we see these same qualities in ourselves. So if we can love our family through imperfections, we can love ourselves through imperfections too. Family can teach us not only to recognize our own flaws, but that we are capable of loving ourselves despite them.
People don’t know what you’re thinking unless you tell them. So if you’re thinking – for example – “I love my mom” – and she’s right next to you, then tell her that. When I do it, she feels great and I feel great too. It’s like a lifted weight off my shoulders that was sitting there for no reason. Sometimes it’s hard to communicate openly with family, but doing so opens so many doors for both parties.
Don’t take family for granted. Some of us have a family that we are born into and some of us don’t. Some of us have families that are whole and some of us have families that have lost some pieces. Family does not stop at the word biological. Family can be any group of people that support each other to achieve their goals and overcome their fears. Let’s be extended family for each other.
