HOT YOUTH SUMMER 2019

“Here’s to celebrating the accomplishment

that they said we wouldn’t make it,

but they have to keep watching it.”

-Founder, Nate Howard

Instructor Terrance Carter poses with the youth at Outdoor Outreach’s final “BE Your Story” summer workshop! Throughout Summer 2019, these youth created stories around ‘BEing courageous, BEing authentic, and BEing the best version of themselves that they can BE! To start off the summer right, we joined with the youth at Outdoor Outreach and immediately began to build genuine connections through creative storytelling. At every workshop, these youth consistently shared their stories with brave hearts and firm intentions. Everyone always had something to share that was raw and inspiring. The room was always on 100, the vibe always felt like home, and the storytelling just got better and better each time!

Towards the end of the summer, 17 year old, Endiyah Griffin took initiative to lead the 'BE Your Story” workshop at the University of San Diego. Here she is expressing her story to the youth whom were connected with us through their Social Fabric Initiative program.

We wanted to BE creative this time around… On July 7, we launched our first Movement BEach x Happy BE-day event. This event was and will always be celebrated with our very own alumni, instructors, local supporters, youth, and last but surely not least, family members. On this day, many of us shared our stories and gained true bonds with everyone in sight. There was music, poetry, great food, and of course, that vibe and energy that you can ONLY get here at Movement BE! We hope to see you and your family with us at our next event!

Movement BE’s first Night At The BallPark Event with the San Diego Padres! This event was the first of many and definitely one for the books! Our youth brought along families, friends, and we even had a few alumni members come out for the special occasion. Though the Padres didn’t leave Petco Park with a W; Movement BE sought to see the victory that truly took place on this day! The night was filled with nice dance moves, good music, fun with family and friends, cotton candy, a lovely sunset, and nothing more grand than another lovely night to just BE! ALSO: Look at the BUS that came to pick us up!!!! Everyone loved that experience! We definitely have to do something like this again!

Midway through the summer we launched both our boys and girls program at Urban Camp. This will be a yearlong partnership in which we will support our youth while in program as well as help them transition upon release. In this picture smiles our very own, Movement BE Instructor, Stephany Lopez.

Here’s the inside scoop of what’s been going on at Urban Camp! What usually happens is, Instructors Emilio Davis and Terrance Carter begin each workshop with asking each youth, “What is something positive that’s happened to you this week?” This immediately allows positivity to begin seeping through the minds of the youth and it always creates a domino effect. Once we begin our workshop after acknowledging the positive things going on throughout the week, the youth grow comfort in knowing that we are socially and emotionally present with them and that they are openly accepted into our web of storytelling, mentorship, and uplifting vibes.

Founder, Nate Howard takes the time to explain the purpose of finding, telling, and BEing your story with the youth connected with the Hands Of Peace Organization. Hands of Peace (HOP) is an interfaith organization developing peace building and leadership skills in Israeli, Palestinian, and American teenagers through the power of dialogue and personal relationships. As the youth were astounded by Nate’s poetry, we were also excited to witness just how brave these students were when it came to sharing their stories with us. And of course; this workshop ended with so many youth sharing how and in which other ways they could tell their story.
